Farley Turns 60!!!

Celebrating the official start of Farley prop hire, February 1962

In a picture framer in Lambs Conduit Street 1961, a chance encounter with an eminent film designer, who asked ‘would you like to hire the picture in the window for a film’, set things in motion and shortly after, The House of Farley was born.

The founder, Joe Farley, was a student of The Central School of Art and École des BeauxArts so would paint in whatever style was required by film clients, frame it, hire it and so grew the Farley collection. Joe thought the idea might have legs and soon he and his wife Madalyn were welcoming clients in to their home and hiring anything and everything they owned. Today there are remnants of that early collection and the welcoming company ethos remains exactly the same as those early years.

Accumulating eight or more collections throughout the following decades, including Louis Koch & Sons, HJ Spiller, Props Galore and Lewis & Kaye, the Farley Group continues to evolve.  Farley was incorporated 1962 so we celebrate our milestone 60th birthday this year and thank all of the inspirational clients and team members past and present who have made it all possible.
