Founded in 1890, Spiller is the oldest collection in our group and certainly represents the finest collection of Old Master paintings available for hire anywhere in the world.
As famous for their antique frames as for paintings, the Spiller collection also includes paintings from the 14th to the 20th Centuries, fine mirrors, easels, cameos, prints, icons, artist’s ephemera, modern paintings, lithographs, engravings and etchings, photographs and sculpture available for hire. Together, they represent a unique inventory of treasures. Indeed a few years ago we discovered that for forty years we’d been hiring out an important portrait by Van Dyke. Thankfully it has now stopped hiring and is on display in a museum in France.
It is reassuring to know almost the entire collection is free of copyright restrictions (with some exceptions) as they are original, antique works of art. Whether you’re on the hunt for an artist’s brush or the finest English landscape, our team can help with your selection and advise on alternatives and suitability. All periods and genres are covered, ancestral portraits, Kings and Queens, marine and equine art, military, landscapes and everything in between. All our paintings are conveniently displayed and categorised as well as being represented here on the website which hopefully makes things really easy. Easier still, if you ask Simon (our resident art enthusiast) for a particular painting or subject, he can select the exact painting after seeing the edge of the frame alone!
